I'm Not Singing That!

“Whoever sings prays twice,” the fourth-century bishop Augustine said. It’s a beautiful line about the power of music to communicate more than our words alone can say. But some hymns and worship songs give us words we don’t want to pray even once. And that’s the starting point for our new Lenten series. We’re exploring one of the most vexing questions for deconstructing Christians: “So what do we sing now?” 

Along the way we’ll feel nostalgic for youth group singalongs, experience flashbacks about our least favorite hymns and songs, and take a field trip to a Taize service. We’ll cancel some songs, mend others, and discover new ones. By the end, we’ll create a collaborative playlist of songs that The Commonwealth feels good about singing together.
